DONALDSON REACHES 300 GAMES IN DREAM START FOR YSE
Yarraville Seddon continues
to set the pace at the top of the Division Two ladder,
with the Eagles now extending their unbeaten streak to
five games after comfortably accounting for West
Footscray last weekend. It was another easy four points
for David Connell’s team who by far look like the form
side of the competition, although their toughest
challenge of the new campaign awaits this weekend as
they host Ron Rooney’s Coburg.

VALE: TINA BARTELS (WERRIBEE DISTRICTS)
(16.05.2012)
The Werribee Districts
Football club this week mourns the loss of a much-loved
member Tina Bartels. Tina passed away on Wednesday 9th
May after being diagnosed with cancer only a few months
earlier. Tina had served on the Board of Management for
the then named Werribee Junior & Amateur Football Club,
and also fulfilled Team Manager duties for several
seasons. Additionally both Tina and husband Gerald have
on several occasions sponsored the club. She was strong
willed & strong minded, and was very passionate about
her family, friends and any job she took on. Tina was
best known for her kind & generous nature, and her big
heart. She loved her family and friends very much, and
treasured the relationships she had with all the people
close to her. This is how everyone will remember this
remarkable woman, and the club & league are indebted to
Tina for her valuable contribution.

ALBION STORM HOME TO CLAIM THRILLER
(13.05.2012)
A six goal to one final term saw
Albion scrape home by one point on
Saturday, as the Cats secured just their
second win of 2012 over fast-starters
Sunshine. With the game all but over at
the final change with Sunshine leading
7.16.58 to 3.8.26, an inspired Albion
put together their best quarter of
football this season, more than doubling
their score to run out one point
winners. Young Todd Finco finished the
match with five goals and was well &
truly best on ground, while Patrick
Wiggins kicked two for the Kangaroos.
The result now takes Albion to 2-3 after
five round of football, with Sunshine
remaining in the five at 3-2.

BREAKING DOWN THE BARRIERS - OUR FEMALE SUPERSTAR
(12.05)
At just seventeen years of age, Shae-Lee
Murphy-Burke has done more for the
women’s footy movement than most people.
One of the main reasons the Altona Youth
Girls teams was formed was so the club
could keep its star player, who as the
only female in Altona’s Under 14 side
won the best and fairest award. She has
been visiting primary schools and
spruiking Aussie Rules in an effort to
recruit girls for a new Under-12’s team,
which will play in the Western Region
Football League’s inaugural Junior Girls
competition. The ten-week competition
will kick off this weekend. The Youth
Girls competition is already in full
swing, with five teams taking part in
the league’s first-ever ‘female only’
competition. With Altona fielding a
senior team for the first time this
year, women’s footy seems to be
experiencing a surge in popularity in
the West.

DIV ONE: SUNSHINE CONTINUE TO IMPRESS
(10.05.2012)
Division One surprise packet
Sunshine continued their good start to
the season last weekend, comfortably
accounting for North Footscray by 57
points at Kinder Smith Reserve. Patrick
Wiggins was up to his usual tricks in
front of goal, kicking six majors for
Sunshine in a dominant performance up
forward. Support came from the likes of
Paul Sheehan, Ben McInneny & Cory Connor
who all managed three. Despite the final
scoreline it was North Footscray that
made a better start of the two sides in
the wet and greasy conditions, kicking
accurately to extend a five point margin
to fifteen at the long break.

(10.05)
Yarraville Seddon has quickly
emerged as the frontrunner in the
Division Two competition after
comprehensively accounting for Glenorden
by 103 points last weekend. In what was
expected to be a tight clash between two
of the form sides of the competition,
Yarraville Seddon led at every change
and were never threatened by the Hawks.
The usual suspects were amongst the best
for the Eagles, with Adam Baker adding
to his impressive season tally with
another six majors, while Beau Guest was
yet again best on ground.

UMPIRING ROUND: RECOGNISING OUR UMPIRES
(05.05.2012)
This weekend is ‘Umpire Recognition’
round, an AFL led initiative which
encourages everyone to respect &
appreciate the excellent work that
umpires do across all levels of our
great game. Too often umpires are lost
to the game due to the abuse and
intimidation experienced on matchday,
and the aim of this weekend is for
everyone to show their appreciation of
those officiating our game in a bid to
promote the retention & recruitment of
local umpires. Over the past three years
our umpire numbers within the WRFL have
almost tripled from a base of just over
100 umpires to our current numbers
nearing 300.
