 WRFL EASTER BREAK  (14.04)

Due to the Easter long weekend, no football will be played over the weekend April 19-April 20, except the special Good Friday Match between St.Albans and Hoppers Crossing on April 18. Regular Round Three competition will resume as of April 26.

The WRFL Office will also be closed from 5pm on Wednesday April 16 and will re-open from 9am on Tuesday April 22.

SPOTSWOOD SEEK JUNIOR PLAYERS  (14.04)
 

Calling all junior players!

The Spotswood Football Club is currently seeking players for their under 9,10,14 and 16 age groups.

Have fun, get fit and meet new friends-It is not too late to join for season 2014.

Any children who register for the under 9 or 10 age group will be eligible to participate free, in the Auskick football program at Spotswood.

All registered junior players will receive a football bag.

A TOUCH OF YELLOW FOR SANCTUARY LAKES (11.04)
 

Just a reminder for all football fans that the Round 2 clash between Sanctuary Lakes v Parkside at Featherbrook Reserves this weekend is dedicated to raising money and awareness for the Cancer Council and their vital research into cancer.

All players will be wearing yellow arm bands to recognise the day, with a number of rattle tins, donation stations and raffle tickets on sale throughout Saturday and Sunday to help raise as much money as possible. Great prizes to be won!

The WYN FM Match of the Round this week will be Division One reigning premiers Deer Park v Werribee Districts at Deer Park Sports Oval this Saturday at 2:15pm.

GAME TRANSFER FOR WFC (10.04)
 

Longtime WRFL sponsor, the Werribee Football Club, would like to advise that the Rd 2 game between Werribee and Bendigo Gold will not be played at Avalon Airport Oval this Saturday.

The ground, in particular the centre wicket area, has been deemed by AFL Victoria and the Werribee Football Club as unsuitable for play this weekend.

The game will now be played on Sunday at Highgate Recreational Reserve Craigieburn at 2pm.

The next home game at Avalon Airport Oval will be on Saturday April 26th under lights when Werribee FC goes up against the Northern Blues-Development League at 4pm with the Seniors at 7pm.

DEBUTANT HIGHLIGHTS (09.04)
 

After all the hard work, blood, sweat and tears put into the off-season both on and off the field, last weekend saw every clubs’ preparation over the summer months put to the test in the opening round of football. Adding to the excitement of football’s return to the west was the debut of new clubs in Tarneit and Werribee Districts who both enjoyed the taste of victory in their debut senior matches.

It all kicks off this Friday night at Kings Park Reserve when St.Albans hosts the reigning premiers Deer Park at 7:15pm. Come down from 6:30pm to enjoy the curtain raiser Auskick match before the main event!

And if you’re still starved of local football, head on down to the new facilities at Wyndhamvale South Oval where the Falcons take on Sanctuary Lakes at 7:15pm.

With the official opening of the new facilities last weekend, the Falcons are busting to run out and put the ground to good use. The club is asking all footy fans to get down and check out the developments from 3pm for the Under 18s, followed by the Reserves at 5pm before the seniors kick off at 7:15pm.

The Western Region Football League has out-muscled the Southern Football League to claim Game 1 of the AFL Vic Metro Championships yesterday at VISY Park.

Whilst many of our players will be having a restless sleep in anticipation of pulling on the red, white and blue and running out on the field, one man who has done it all before is Port Melbourne Colts player Steve McAnulty. The 33-year-old is the only player on the senior interleague team to have played in the last Senior Interleague carnival which was cancelled.

The WRFL, in conjunction with the Western Bulldogs and AFL Victoria, is launching an all girls Auskick program. Commencing on Wednesday May 7th at the Saltwater Reserve synthetic oval in Point Cook the centre is open to all girls aged 5 -12 interested in playing Australian Rules football.

 

Each participant will receive 6 weeks of coaching in Aussie Rules and a football backpack packed full of goodies - including your very own football! The Western Bulldogs will be supporting the clinic with giveaways and player appearances over the 6 weeks.

After more than a decade since the last senior interleague carnival, senior representative footy is back in 2014 when the state's six Metropolitan leagues go head to head in the AFL Vic Metro Championships.

 

Today marks exactly 10 days to go until the WRFL takes on the Southern Football League at Visy Park on March 29.

 

Show your support and see some of the west's best players do battle for the ultimate bragging rights from 11:15am, followed by the EDFL v NFL at 1:25pm and the VAFA v EFL at 3:35pm.

The Laverton Magpies Football Club will be holding their Junior Registration Day on Sunday 16th March at Laverton Magpies Football Club, (Laverton Park) Corner Merton Street & Hall Avenue, Altona Meadows.

 

The event will take place between 10am-12pm with the club taking registrations for all age groups.

 

Junior Membership for season 2014 will be $160 which will include a pair of Black shorts and socks, every child after will be $130.

It’s official.

 

Former Carlton player Ryan Houlihan is set to pull on a blue and gold guernsey this season after officially signing with the Deer Park Football Club on Monday night.

 

Houlihan’s addition to the club sees the Lions recruit a total of four ex-AFL players during the off-season, including Bret Thornton (Carlton/GWS), Brent Guerra (Hawthorn) and Ryan Hargrave (Western Bulldogs).

As the heavens opened and the heavy rains set in last Wednesday, it was clear that football was not all about winning at the Point Cook Football Club.

 

With the ground starting to resemble a shallow swimming pool, the new Point Cook Football Club’s Youth Girls team was in the thick of it all, training hard for the upcoming season.


Whilst forming the first Youth Girls team is an achievement for the club, coach Belinda McErvale’s main aim for the season is to ensure the girls develop a passion for the sport and above all have fun.

It was with great pleasure and excitement that the Wyndham Suns Football Club unveiled their new club jumper and song to their members for the first time at the club's registration day yesterday.

 

There was a great reception to both the jumper and song which is sung to the tune of the AFL's Richmond Football Club.

With the WRFL fielding its first Senior Interleague team in over 10 years we are offering a great opportunity for some of our promising Under 18 players to get involved.

 

A total of four under 18 players will be invited to take part in this unique experience to rub shoulders with and learn from the best senior players in the WRFL.

 

The four selected players will take part in all Interleague training sessions and be part of the build up on Saturday March 29th when we take on the Southern Football League at VISY Park.

 

All clubs who will field an Under 18 team in 2014 are invited to nominate 1 player based on the following criteria:-

  • The player must be eligible to play under 18’s in 2014 (development players not accepted)

  • The player has shown exceptional leadership skills throughout his junior career and will be a potential leader within your senior club.

  • Has played in the WRFL for no less than 3 seasons prior to 2014.

  • Provide a short summary on why the nominated player should be selected.

FEB FAST PRE-SEASON CHALLENGE (30.01)

Well Western Bulldogs  tall man Will Minson, Essendon's Michael Hibberd and Collingwood's Luke Ball think they can, as they join a number of AFL players who have signed up to support this year's Feb Fast Pre-season Challenge.

 

Having raised $5.5 since its inception in 2007, Feb Fast aims to improve the personal health and well being of all Australians, in particularly vulnerable and disadvantaged young people experiencing alcohol, drug and mental health issues. 

 

This year the AFL Players’ Association and AFL Victoria will be encouraging individuals and community clubs to register for FebFast and fundraise as part of their pre-season preparation.

 

Clubs that raise the most amount of money during February will go in the draw to win one-off AFL memorabilia that can be used for club fundraising efforts throughout the year!

WRFL MOURNS THE LOSS OF LIFE MEMBER (22.12)

 

The Western Region Football League staff, board and clubs today mourn the loss of one our Life Members, Marj Laffin, who sadly passed away on Friday night.

 

Marj was inducted as a WRFL Life member in 1996 and was also a Life Member of Sunshine YCW for her outstanding 40 years of service. Known by all as one of the best raffle sellers in the region, Marj was presented with the 2000 Queens Award  by former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, for her service to sport.

 

Our thoughts go out to Marj's family and friends during this difficult time. 

 

 

 

INITIAL SENIOR REP SQUAD RELEASED (18.12)

 

An initial squad of 70 of the best WRFL players from season 2013 have been selected to represent the league in the 2014 AFL Victoria Metropolitan Championships.

 

It is the first time in over 10 years that the WRFL has been involved in Senior Interleague and therefore a great opportunity for these players to be part of something special.

We expect all clubs to support these players and the WRFL to ensure the best possible side is available when the league shapes up against the Southern Football League on March 29 at Visy Park.

Please note that this is the initial squad, and players may be added after the Christmas/New Year break, with a final squad of 24 players to be selected to represent the WRFL on the day. Each player will receive an email or letter from the league in due course with further details.

Following the appointment of senior interleague head coach Brett Jacobs last week, the Western Region Football League has announced two new members to join the coaching panel, with league great Steve Thom appointed as Chairman of Selectors and Altona Vikings reserves coach Aaron Freeland as assistant coach.

 

With nearly 60 years of experience in the WRFL between the three men, it seems the league is in good hands when they come up against the Southern Football League in the 2014 AFL Victoria Metro Championships held on March 29 at Visy Park.

BRIAN ROYAL NAMED AS 2014 AFL VIC METRO COACH (11.12)

 

Former AFL assistant coach and Western Bulldogs Team of the Century rover Brian Royal has been named coach of AFL Victoria's Metropolitan representative side for 2014.

 

Royal will lead a team made up of the best metro players selected from the six metropolitan leagues participating in the AFL Vic Metro Championships held on March 29 at Visy Park.

 

For the first time in 20 years, the Vic Metro squad will face the WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country's number one team to be coached by Hawthorn legend Peter Knights.

TARNEIT TITANS SEEK JUNIOR PLAYERS (03.12)

 

With the Tarneit Titans senior teams three weeks into their first pre-season the club is now  turning their attention to junior football. The new club believes a successful junior program is critical to ensuring the club's future and is now calling on the community to be part of the journey.

 

The Titans are seeking expressions of interest from children of any age who would like to play with the Titans in 2014. The WRFL junior season will kick off on April 6th and the club will need to have a clear idea of the teams it will field by mid February.

Deer Park Under 13 coach David Foley has been dubbed the best junior football coach in the state, after taking home the AFL Victoria Junior Coach of the Year award on Friday, November 8.

Over 300 guests gathered at the MCG, for the 26th annual Victorian Australian Football Coaches Association (AFCA), where Foley was awarded the David Parkin Junior Coach of the Year for his work in uniting the Deer Park and Caroline Springs football clubs to form a combined Under 13s side.

There have been some big changes for the Wyndhamvale Football Club during the off-season, with the Falcons set to unveil its new club facilities at a Family Day event this Sunday. 

 

Saying goodbye to their home of 30 years, the Falcons will kick of the 2014 season in style, with the development of the Wyndham Vale South Reserve.

TARNEIT TITANS SEEK JUNIOR COACHES (15.11)

 

Following great interest in their Senior teams the Tarneit Titans are now  turning their attention to junior football.

 

The Titans are seeking expressions of interest from the community for coaching and support staff for junior teams in 2014. There is significant work that needs to be done and the club is seeking coaches to not only help ensure the club is successful on the field, but also to help grow the club off field.

 

The club plans to enter five junior teams in the WRFL in 2014 however the number of teams and age groups will be largely determined by the response from the community.

 

If you have a desire to coach junior football and would like to be involved in a club in its inaugural year please email tarneittitansfc@outlook.com.au. Expressions of interest from anyone interested in support staff roles such as team manager or trainer are also welcome

ALTONA FC APPOINT CO-COACHES FOR 2014   (11.11)

 

The Altona Football Club has appointed former Caroline Springs coach Gary Turner and senior player Josh Russo as co-coaches for season 2014.

 

Turner has a wealth of coaching experience within the league, having spent time at Spotswood FC coaching the Under 18s and at Parkside FC in 2010 coaching the seniors, before moving to the Caroline Springs Football Club in 2011 to coach their inaugural senior team.

 

Joining Turner at the helm is captain Josh Russo, who is keen to step up to the challenges of a senior coaching role. Having joined the Vikings in 2010, Russo has been an invaluable part of the club's senior team for over four seasons, taking on the role as captain for a number of seasons.

 

The club is delighted to have both Turner and Russo on board for season 2014 and look forward to a great year ahead.

OLD WESTBOURNE BECOMES THE WYNDHAM SUNS  (07.11)

 

On Wednesday 30th October Old Westbourne AFC held their AGM and in a significant decision it was unanimously voted to change the club's name to the Wyndham Suns Football Club. This is an important milestone in the club's history and goes hand in hand with its move to a new home ground in 2014.

 

The club experienced the largest turnout for an AGM in a number of years, with all committee positions filled and a large number of members putting up their hand to work with the  committee to ensure the long term success of the renamed club.

 

The Wyndham Suns are looking forward to playing out of their new home ground at Goddard Street Reserve, Tarneit, with U9s, U10s, U11,s U12s, U13s, U14s, U15s, U16s and Youth Girls in the WRFL and Seniors, Reserves and Under 19s in VAFA.

 

Construction of club rooms will commence shortly, and will hopefully be ready mid football season next year, and the club thanks Wyndham Council for their time and effort in making the move from the old base at Westbourne Grammar to the new home ground possible.


A new playing jumper has been approved and will be released to our members and the general public shortly.

What a successful year we have had overall. With only 9 teams in our juniors, with 7 competitive sides, 5 made finals and 3 made grand finals. We had 3 premierships within our junior club Under 11C, Under 13B, Under 15A. What a great effort by all.

We are seeking applications for coaching from Under 9 - Under 16’s for 2014. All applicants must have a working with children’s check and willing to complete a  Level 1 coaching course.

Yesterday saw the epic conclusion to the Division Two competition, in three fantastic Grand Finals between Glen Orden v Newport Power (U18s), Parkside v Manor Lakes (Reserves) and Glen Orden v Parkside (Seniors).

 

Congratulations to all grand final teams for your fantastic efforts in getting to the last day in September, you all fought valiantly to the very last seconds of each match, and should be proud of your achievements.

THE TARNEIT TITANS ARE BORN (03.09)
 

At the inaugural general meeting held at the Wootten Road Reserve in Tarneit on September 2nd the first committee of the Tarneit Titans Football Club was officially elected. This follows a number of meetings coordinated by Wyndham Council, AFL Victoria and the WRFL to gauge community interest in a new club to play at the recently opened Wootten Road Reserve.

 

Led by President Jay Hazelman the club is hopeful of entering both junior and senior teams in the WRFL in 2014, however the makeup of these teams will be dependent on interest and demand from local residents and the wider football community.

The Braybrook Sporting Club is hosting "BROOKERS KICK FOR A CURE TO END WOMEN’S CANCERS”

See some of the past and present Braybrook coaches and players strap on the boots and come together to tough it out for four quarters of grass roots footy for a cure. The day will also be filled with lots of kids entertainment, face painting, jumping castle and games, sausage sizzle, raffles, goal kicking competition and much more!

BEST WISHES BAILEY (12.08)
 

The Hoppers Crossing Football Club and the wider WRFL community wishes Bailey Stavrou a speedy recovery after the U14 player contracted a serious infection last week. Bailey plays with the undefeated Hoppers Crossing 14A team which, after a resounding victory yesterday, will play in the Grand Final on August 25th.

Bailey is currently in hospital and is fighting hard to overcome this setback. After playing all year he's looking forward to being fit and healthy again and hopes his team can complete their 'perfect' season in two weeks time. His team mates, coaches and supporters would love to have him back playing as soon as possible and wish him the best as he recovers.

 

 

A GLEN ORDEN FAVOURITE SET TO HANG UP THE BOOTS (09.08)
 

Congratulations to Glen Orden Reserves player, Murray Hardy who is set to retire after his Round 18 clash against North Sunshine this weekend. Hardy is a three-time premiership player (2003, 2004 and 2006) and was captain of the 2006 Premiership team. The 38-year-old also played his 200th game for the Hawks in Round 14 against Parkside this year, and we wish him all the best for the future.

Congratulations also goes to Glen Orden Reserve's Captain Lyle Moore who will also hang up the boots with Hardy after Saturday's game. Good Luck on the weekend and best wishes for the future!

Just a reminder to all clubs that the 2013 Wingman Off-field Champion Nomination Form is due back to your League Secretary by August 15, 2013.

 The Wingman Off-Field Champion Awards Program recognises football players aged 18-25 who demonstrate leadership behaviour off the field which sets an example for their peers. The program is sponsored by the Victorian Government’s Wingman campaign which encourages young adults to look out for themselves and their mates on and off the field.

The WRFL would like to congratulate Codey Guy on reaching his 150th milestone earlier this season. Originally playing for West Footscray Football Club in his junior days, Codey is now  playing for Hoppers Crossing's Division Two Under 18s team.

Nominations for this year's COACH OF THE YEAR Award is now open!

 

The award recognizes the significant contribution coaches have to the conduct and development of Australian football in Victoria.

 

Coaches of all age brackets ranging from Auskick, Junior, Youth and Senior Levels can be nominated....but be quick as nominations close on MONDAY 12TH AUGUST.

 

Winners of the 2013 "Coach of the Year" Awards will be announced at the AFCA Western Region Annual Dinner to be held on Thursday 19th September at The Brook on Sneydes, Point Cook.

BRAYBROOK 70s REUNION A HIT (30.07)
 

More than 120 past players, officials and supporters gathered at Pennell Reserve last Sunday to celebrate Braybrook’s successful era during the 1970s.

 

Winning a total of 15 junior and senior premierships during the 70s, the day saw the unveiling of the Senior, Reserve and the Under 18s Teams of the Decade as well as including the Umpire of the Decade which was awarded by Bob Madigan.

Having won ten games this season, including knocking off the top side two weeks ago, it seems the Sunshine Kangaroos are in great shape coming into the finals series.

This year, the Braybrook Sporting Club gets into the community spirit when they host the William Cooper Cup NAIDOC Family Day Match on Sunday July 7 at Pennell Reserve.

History will be made this Saturday night, when the first ever AFL's women's match between the Melbourne Football Club and the Western Bulldogs Football Club will be played at the MCG.

WRFL MOURNS THE LOSS OF A LIFE MEMBER (27.06)
 

The Western Region Football League staff, board and clubs today mourn the loss of one our Life Members, Malcolm McBean, who sadly passed away last night.

 

Malcolm was inducted as a WRFL Life Member in 1969 through Kingsville FC  and was also a Life Member of the St.Albans & Kingsville/Yarraville Seddon Football Clubs.

 

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends, in particularly his daughter Paula and Son Terry.

CAROLINE SPRINGS FUNDRAISER (19.06)
 

The Caroline Springs Football Club is raising awareness for cervical cancer over the next two weeks when they take on West Footscray in Round'10 and Wyndhamvale in Round 11.

 

All Caroline Springs Senior and Reserve players will be wearing an aqua coloured arm band in Round 11 to help raise awareness  and support club member, Amanda Johnson who is fighting Cervical Cancer.

 

All money raised from the meat raffle held at the home game in Round 11 will be donated and the club encourages everyone to dig deep and purchase raffle tickets.

 

The club will also be having a silent auction throughout next week and  the Lakers again encourage all to come down and donate where possible and help fight cancer.

 

 

WERRIBEE CENTRALS TURN 10  (14.06)
 

The Werribee Centrals Junior Football Club is celebrating their 10th Anniversary in the WRFL this season, with a celebration dinner on Tuesday July 16.

 

Held at Hotel 520 Sayers Rd Tarneit, the night will see the return of past players and special guest and include a three-course meal, balloon and caricature artists, gift and much more!

Cancer. A word that pulls at the heartstrings of many Australians as it can, and does, affect many people of all ages.

 

With one in three men, and one in four women directly affected by cancer by the age of 75, the Glenorden Football Club has decided to swap their traditional brown and yellow stripes for a daffodil inspired white and yellow jumper, in support of the Cancer Council's Call to Arms campaign.

The Deer Park Football Club will wear orange laces in their football boots this weekend in support of the Step Back THINK! campaign, which aims  to raise awareness of the dangers street violence can have on an individual and the community.

 

For DPFC Under 11's coach, Frank Politi, the Step Back THINK! campaign will be extra special for him and his family,  after loosing his 22-year-old nephew to street violence last year.

WRFL-WESTERN BULLDOGS JUNIOR HEARTLAND AWARD  (07.06)
 

The WRFL-Western Bulldogs Heartland Award is a new initiative developed to promote and encourage good sportsmanship for WRFL junior players from the Under 9s, through to the Under 14s inclusive, as well as the Under 13 Youth Girls.

 

The award is an effective way to teach our young players an important life skills in that while it's always good to win, the old adage "It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game that counts," is an important element in our junior players development.

In it's 10th year calling WRFL games this season, local radio station 88.9 WYN FM has giving many listeners the chance to been involved in local footy, with the introduction of  an un-buffered live broadcast of games on 90.1 WYN FM this year.

SCOTT WEST INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME (06.06)
 

Former Western Bulldogs great and current Werribee Tigers Senior coach, Scott West has been inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame on Tuesday night.

 

Despite never winning a flag, West won seven club Best and Fairest awards, five All Australian selections and runner up in the 2000 Brownlow.

When our children first start playing football at a young age, we see every game as an achievement. Before you know it,  they reach that all important 50-games and then their 100th, then 150th and if they're dedicated enough, they may even play their 200th.

 

 But for someone to play more than 500 games for a club, is an achievement like no other.

 

Long time  Viking's player Kevin McDonald reached an incredible career total of 500 games last week against  Hoppers Crossing. This Saturday the club will celebrate his achievement at  Grant Reserve when they come up against St.Albans.

WRFL COMMUNITY MOURN THE LOSS OF CLUB GREATS  (06.05)
 

The WRFL community would like to pass on their condolences to the North Sunshine Football Club for the passing of  club Treasurer, Kerryn Jess.

Our thoughts are with her family during this tough time, especially for her daughter Anne-Maree, son-in-law Daniel, son Ross, daughter-in-law Kate and her two grandchildren Samuel and Ethan.

We would also like to extend our thoughts to the Albion Football Club, for the death of club foundation President Ern Davis.

Ern joined Albion in 1961 after many years at Sunshine FC and was the first Life Member and President when the club won their first A-Grade Premiership in 1965.

Former Essendon and St.Kilda star, Andrew Lovett, has signed up with the Deer Park Football Club for season 2013.

Signing up with the club on Wednesday night, he is set to make his debut next week in Division 1 against Albion.

This weekend, the WRFL will celebrate Umpire's Appreciation Round.

In 2013, the 'Umpiring is Everyone's Business' campaign will see community football leagues promote the role of umpiring and recognise the fantastic work they do week in week out for our great game.

In their fourth annual Anzac Day clash at Pennell Reserve last Thursday,  Division Two's Braybrook took on competition newcomers Manor Lakes.

In the true spirit of the day, it was a hard fought battle from all players, with Manor Lakes running out comfortable winners with a final score 34.11.215 to Braybrook 11.12.78

PAST LEGENDS OF THE GAME RELIVE GLORY DAYS (01.05)
 

A number of past Deer Park and Albanvale players strapped on the boots one more time to relive their glory days in last Friday night's Legends Match at Robert Bruce Reserve.

 

 Whilst the Lions won convincingly over their Cobra counterparts, a great night was had by all.

MULLIGAN BECOMES A WARRIOR (24.04)
 

Former Gold Coast  boy and Ex-Western Bulldogs player, James Mulligan has chosen to stay in Victoria, to play in the WRFL as a Warrior for Hoppers Crossing this year.

 

Joining fellow ex-Bulldog team mate, Brodie Moles, the pair have regained their passion for the game and are enjoying their time in the navy and white.

 Congratulations to Braeden Perkins from the Port Melbourne Colts Football Club for reaching 100 games last week!

 

The Colts will be heading down to Pekish Restaurant  at the Yarraville Club after their clash against the Yarraville Seddon Eagles this weekend and all supporters are welcome!

EX-DOG MAKES A GREAT NEW WARRIOR (23.04)
 

 27 -year-old, ex-Western Bulldogs player, Brodie Moles, takes time out of his busy schedule to talk to our resident WRFL Assistant Reporter, Anthony Laughton, about his time at the Kennel, and how is like now as a Warrior.

FORMER FALCON MAKES AFL DEBUT (19.04)
 

 Growing up playing his junior football with the Wyndhamvale Falcons, 22-year old, Majak Daw will be the first African born man to play AFL, when he pulls on the blue and white for North Melbourne this weekend. 

 

Currently playing for VFL affiliate team, the Werribee Tigers, head coach Scott West joined WRFL Assistant Reporter, Anthony Laughton, to talk about Daw's development into the AFL, and his thoughts on his big debut match against the Brisbane Lions.

SUNSHINE HEIGHTS 'FOOTY'S FUN FOR EVERYONE' PROGRAM   (13.02)
 

Sunshine Heights Football Club is introducing a new junior program called 'Footy's Fun for Everyone'. This program offers boys and girls in the area the opportunity to participate in an organised football competition at a very low cost (and free in some instances).

ALTONA CLAIM FIRST-EVER DIVISION ONE PREMIERSHIP   (15.09)
 

Altona Football Club has won the club's first Division One Premiership with a remarkable one-point win over Spotswood, 14.7.91 to 12.18.90. In a see-sawing battle that saw numerous lead changes, Spotswood's late charge fell short despite five goals from Jason Cloke. The win is Altona's first Division One premiership since the club's inception in 1933, overcoming Spotswood, the most successful side in the history of the Division One competition.

FIRST PREMIERSHIP FOR MERGED YARRAVILLE SEDDON   (12.09)
 

The Yarraville Seddon Eagles have won a historic first premiership in the club's merged history, coming from behind to defeat Parkside by 28 points. Trailing by 12 at the first change, and 14 and half-time, the Eagles kicked nine goals to two in the final half to claim the Division Two flag. The win capped off a brilliant day for the Eagles, with the Under-18's winning through to the Grand Final, and the Reserves claiming the flag over Wyndhamvale.
