Mr Bill Baarini
Bill Baarini’s
involvement with the Western Region Football league
dates back to his junior playing days. Bill initially
ran around in the league as a 13 year-old, before
continuing on to achieve great junior success at both a
club & league level. Bill captained a winning
inter-league team for the WRFL and won both a League
Best and Fairest Award & Rookie of the Year Award. Bill
also played for the Western Jets before beginning a
stint at the Essendon Football Club, where he played
reserve grade football. Bill has a great passion for
both our league & the game in general.
“I love footy and I look forward to the challenges ahead
of me in this role. I know the people, the clubs and
what’s needed. We all want to build the WRFL into the
best suburban footy comp in Melbourne. The new board has
the get up and go to make that happen and we will. We
have some very important issues to deal with and we will
do that in the best interests of the entire competition
and community.”

Vice President
Mr John O'Callaghan
John
O'Callaghan has been a WRFL board member since 2008. He
is a partner of Piper Alderman Lawyers. John is the
author of "Sports Disputes and the Law" and a booklet on
Sports Team Selection for which he was commissioned by
the Australian Sports Commission.
In 2003 he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in Sport.
He has acted for many sports organisations and
individuals in a range of sports. He co-presents a
sports radio show on 88.3FM each week, and regularly
comments on sports issue on ABC radio. John also was a
WRFL tribunal member for several years.
Since February 2010 John has been a magistrate stationed
at Broadmeadows.

Mr Bruce Mildenhall
Bruce
Mildenhall was the State MP for Footscray for 14 years
including a 7 year period as the Parliamentary Secretary
to Premier Steve Bracks. He also served as a shadow
minister for a five year period, including a period as
Shadow Minister for Sport and Recreation. Bruce also
served as a Councilor in the City of Footscray for 9
years, including a term as Mayor in 1987/88.
Professionally, Bruce was a senior manager in the State
Department of Sport and Recreation for seven years, and
worked for many years in sport, recreation and youth
work. Currently Bruce is self employed and chairs the
Boards of State Sports Centres Trust, Western Region
Health Centre and Doutta Galla Aged Services.

Mrs Janine Mizzi
Janine Mizzi has been a member of
the Executive since 2003. She has held various positions
within the WRFL including membership of the Junior
Board, Finals Match Manager, Club Liaison and is deeply
involved with the WRFL’s Junior Interleague program.

Mr Barry Lovell
Barry Lovell is a semi-retired,
former Chief of Staff to the Minister for Sport and
Recreation and Minister for the Commonwealth Games,
Justin Madden. He has 20 years experience in the
Department of Sport and Recreation in Sports Facilities,
Community Sport and Recreation, access for disadvantaged
groups, and regional areas.
Barry is a sports participant and coach/advisor/club
official across the sports of football, cricket,
baseball, and is a former secondary school Phys Ed
teacher. He is a resident of Kensington and currently
assists part time with supervision of student teachers,
and mentors young people at the Kensington community
Centre. |

Mr Terry McGarity
Terry McGarity
has been involved in the WRFL for more than fifty years,
having started his association with the league as an
Under 10’s player at Braybrook Juniors, before playing
Under 19’s at Footscray & a stint in the VFA. Terry was
the Spotswood Captain/Coach in the then Footscray
District Football League with highlights including their
1971 Premiership. Since retiring as a player Terry has
served as the FDFL Umpiring Advisor, Umpire’s
Association Board Member & Vice-President, as well as a
coach & fitness advisor to the Umpire’s Association.
Terry is a Legend & Life Member of the Umpire’s
Association, Life Member of the Western Region Football
League, and has served on the League Executive for close
to a decade. Terry still lives locally in Braybrook."

Ms Gina Smith
Gina Smith has been a member of
the WRFL Disciplinary Panel since 2005. Gina has Board
experience including governance practice and
development, and 19 years volunteer experience with
various community sport organizations.
Gina has extensive experience in organised sport
including: sport administration, event planning,
operations and delivery Grass roots to elite
participation at State and National level. Gina has been
a representative on State Association sub-committees
including strategic planning, financial planning &
budget development.

Officer
Mr Bob Tregear
Bob Tregear was
appointed CEO of the WRFL in February 2010. A well known
and respected identity in the football and business
community, he had run his own company Thompson Tregear
Pty Ltd for the previous twenty years, specialising in
management consulting to the sports and leisure
industries.
Bob has had footy running through his veins for more
than fifty years. His playing days started at school and
later in the Under 16s with Box Hill Pioneers in the
Eastern Suburban Churches Association. At club level he
has served as a player, coach, committeeman, secretary
and president with the Lilydale and Mt Evelyn Football
Clubs. He led the restructuring of junior football
competitions in the Eastern Districts Football League,
serving as founding Chairman of the EDFL’s Junior
Committee in 1987-88. In 1989 he was elected as
President of the EDFL and served for six years, retiring
at the end of the 1994 football season.
In 1993 Bob was appointed by the AFL to the Victorian
Football Taskforce to assist in the restructuring of
Victorian football in the wake of formation of the AFL
national competition. That involvement lasted for the
next 16 years, including roles on the Boards of the VFA,
VSFL and Football Victoria. From 2003 until his
retirement in 2009, he served as Chairman of the Boards
of Football Victoria / AFL Victoria. He is a Life Member
of the Eastern Football League and the Victorian
Football League.
Bob’s wealth of experience and knowledge is a welcome
addition to the WRFL Administration. He is thrilled and
excited to be employed in the football industry for the
first time and is committed to the challenge of guiding
the growth and viability of the WRFL in the
fastest-growing region of Australia.

Football Operations
Mr David Newton
David Newton has been involved in
football administration since commencing an AFL
Traineeship with the Calder Cannons FC in 2001. In 2004
David moved onto become the Football Operations Officer
at AFL Victoria where he assisted with the operations of
both the VFL and TAC Cup competitions. David has been
employed with the WRFL since December 2006 as the
General Manager of Football Operations. In 2008 David
completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Business – Sport
Management at Deakin University. |

Club Development Officer
Mr Tim Shellcot
Tim spent the early part of his
working life in the financial industry before completing
a Bachelor of Exercise Science and Human Movement (Honours)
as a mature age student. Over the past 10 years he has
worked in a variety of roles in the sports industry,
including as a Strength and Conditioning Coach with
Tennis Victoria’s junior academy and the Casey Scorpions
Football Club, and as a sessional teacher in Victoria
University’s Sport Management degree. Prior to joining
the WRFL he spent 18 months working with the Scorpions
as Football Operations Manager. Tim played over 200
senior games with Foster Football Club in the Alberton
Football League, and is playing member of the
Elsternwick Cricket Club. He is a life member of both
those clubs.

Officer
Mr Cam Nation
Cam brings a
wealth of experience & knowledge to the WRFL team,
having spent the past decade working in both the media &
sporting industries.Aft er graduating from one of the
nation’s leading journalism courses at RMIT University,
Cam has worked for a number of national & local
publications and will no doubt ensure the WRFL maintains
its strong media presence online & throughout the
western suburbs.
Having played as a junior in Geelong, coached up to a
League Representative Level within the Yarra Junior
Football League and served on a number of local sporting
boards, Cam will add another dimension to the dynamic
team at WRFL Headquarters.
Cam is also the National High Performance Coach at one
of Melbourne’s leading aquatic clubs – and was last year
awarded an ‘Australia Day Award’ for his ‘Contribution
to Youth’ in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Marketing Consultant
Mr Peter Harley
Peter Harley
spent 11 years as Marketing Manager of AFL Victoria
before pursuing his sports consultancy in 2010. Prior to
that Peter held senior marketing positions in the
service and fast moving goods industries. Peter spends a
couple of days per week at the WRFL advising and
assisting the WRFL with its marketing activities, with a
major focus on sourcing and servicing partnerships.
Peter has been involved in football coaching for the
last 20 years in community football.

Consultant
Mr Kevin Hillier
Kevin Hillier has been involved
with the League since 2003. He is a well known radio
personality in Melbourne having worked for 3XY, Triple
M, Fox, Gold FM and currently SEN. Kevin is the author
of 'Like Father Like Son - The History of the FDFL/WRFL’
and ‘Rocket Science’ the biography of Rodney Eade. Kevin
also writes for the Star newspaper and is one of
Melbourne's most recognisable media performers from
numerous commercials and from the multitude of MC jobs
he does.

Officer & Events Coordinator
Miss Lyn McLeod
Lyn McLeod
joined the League after moving from Perth. Lyn is a
qualified pastry chef who has a passion for football. As
well as being a lifelong Bombers supporter Lyn plays
women’s football. She started in WA with the Innaloo
Piranhas and since arriving in Melbourne has been
playing with the Melbourne University Football Club on
the wing.
